Titled, inscribed, signed, and dated ".../N.1 G. Alibrandi/1964/C2-16" in two places on the frame backing, also signed on the stretcher and on the tacking edge.
Mixed media including oil and paper on canvas, 35 1/2 x 47 1/2 in., framed.
Condition: Broad canvas rippling, varnish inconsistencies, scattered small pigment losses, surface grime.
N.B. After a stint in the Italian air force as a glider pilot, Gaetano Curreri-Alibrandi attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, graduating in 1954. He remained in Rome working at the Vatican under Pope Pius XII and exhibited throughout Europe, including solo shows in Rome, Venice, Bologna, and Salzburg. He immigrated to the United States in 1965 and secured representation with Shuster Galleries in New York, then earned a Master's degree from Massachusetts College of Art and became Dean of New England School of Art and Design. Curreri-Alibrandi devoted his career to promoting art, not only as an artist and a teacher, but also as a gallery owner and author.
