Condition: Lined, retouched, several small paint losses, craquelure, surface grime.
N.B. André, vicomte de Sainte-Maure, held the elevated title of Pair de France, named to the Chambre des Pairs by Charles X in1827. The medal suspended from the red ribbon is Ordre royal et militaire de Saint-Louis. It was created in 1693 as an award for military merit and valor and was awarded only to French Catholic officers who had served for at least ten years.

Condition: The inscription may have been from the reverse of the old canvas onto the back of the lining canvas. The frame is 31 1/2 x 27 1/2 x 3 in.
