French Model 1774 Infantry Musket, Charleville, France, 1770s, converted to percussion, 44 5/8 in., .77 caliber round barrel with indistinct markings at the breech, secured to the walnut stock with three iron bands, the rear band with a screw securing an internal rammer retaining spring; slightly curved lock plate, the pointed tail behind the cock with a convex surface, the area in front of the cock flat and marked with a fleur-de-lis over "N" and "Charleville"; the stock with carved "F+C" on the left side of the butt, and with a mortice in the front of the forestock for a bayonet spring clip (missing); iron furniture including butt plate with rounded finial, trigger guard with short forward extension and pointed finials marked on the inside of the trigger guard bow "R," and side plate marked on the exterior marked "GC," overall lg. 60 in.
Condition
Condition: Metal toned to a mottled gray with minor underlying pitting, butt plate and trigger guard brown, missing forward side nail, missing rammer, stock with dings dents, scratches and a crack in front of the lock mortice and behind front band, action will not hold on half or full cock.
