N.B. This presentation of this work follows the format of the Salmagundi Club dinners, particularly those hosted by Samuel T. Shaw, where an artist is honored and all the guests present for the dinners (Salmagundi members), sign the mat of an artwork by the honoree. In this case, the Salmagundi Club curator has let us know that F.K.M. Rehn was honored at a dinner in 1908. The Club history shows the following entry: 1908 Salmagundi Club, New York, NY, "Dinner tendered to Franklin K.M. Rehn by Samuel T. Shaw, [unknown date]. " The pastel at hand is not one of the Shaw purchase prizes but appears to be a drawing done for this particular event and signed by the attendees, including the host Samuel T. Shaw.
We would like to thank Bill Indursky and Alexander Katlin for their kind assistance in researching this work.
