Emerson & Silver Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword, Trenton, New Jersey, mid-19th century, brass hilt with floral scroll openwork counter guard, acanthus leaf-decorated quillon, leaf-decorated pommel, leather-wrapped grip with twisted brass wire wrapping, curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip, single narrow fuller and single wide fuller, blade etched with spreadwing eagle, scrolling floral devices, panoplies of arms and "US," etched on the ricasso "EMERSON/& SILVER/TRENTON"; leather scabbard with brass mouth, middle band, and tip, blade lg. 32, overall lg. 38 in.
Condition
Condition: Brass toned to a deep brown/yellow, traces of gilding on the front of the guard, old polish residue in the crevices; blade is mostly bright with spots of gray toning and spots of light surface oxidation; scabbard surface is worn, abraded and has minor craquelure, old bend just above the brass tip.
