Early French Naval/Commercial Musket, second quarter of the 18th century, 46 15/16 in., .70 caliber octagon to round barrel, the left flat stamped with a crown over "V"; double bridled Model 1728-type lock with stepped and pointed tail, the inside of the lock plate stamped "CB"; walnut stock with handrail butt; brass furniture including a butt plate with a three arm finial, trigger guard with pointed finials, "S" shape side plate marked on the exterior "FD" and on the interior "N," two brass rammer pipe and two sheet brass barrel bands, steel rammer with button head and threaded base, overall lg. 62 3/4 in.

Condition
Condition: Iron toned to a mottled gray/brown, back portion of breech plug tang (behind the tang screw) is missing; lock steel was refaced during its period of use, side nails are not original; stock has scattered dings and dents, stains, and infills around some pins, wood loss at areas at the front and rear of the lock mortice, crack at the breech to upper side nail hole, left side of forestock has splinter cracks in the area of the second band, right side of forestock has section of wood restoration associated with the rammer pipe, forward nine inches of the forestock is restored, sling ring and bands appear to be restored.
