Early British Militia or Volunteer Cavalry Pistol, Francis Smart, London, c. 1695, 13 15/16 in., .60 caliber octagon-to-ring-to round barrel marked with London proof marks and maker's mark of a crown over "FS" on the left flat; unbridled curved and convex surface lock plate with double line border engraving on plate and cock, engraved "F/SMART" below the pan; walnut stock with carved plateau around the breech plug tang; brass furniture including a plain butt cap, sheet brass trigger guard with pointed finial, and single ribbed rammer pipe, wood rammer with brass tip, matching visible assembly numbers, overall lg. 20 3/4 in.

Condition
Condition: Iron with even brown patina and very slight pitting; brass with deep dark patina; stock with dings, dents, blemishes, a small chip of wood loss at the front of the lock mortice, and a few old worm holes in the forend, top jaw screw not original.
