Howard & Company No. 61 Regulator, Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1875-1885, carved walnut case with pitched pediment and central carved and turned finial, full-length glass door flanked by carved ornament, full-length glass sides, molded flat base with raised moldings enclosing decorative grained panels, 14-in. silvered brass, engraved dial marked E. Howard & Co./Boston, Mass., the dial reading seconds at the top, hours below and minutes around the perimeter with original blued steel hands, the brass damascened movement marked E. Howard & Co./Boston with deadbeat escapement, jeweled pallets, maintaining power, Geneva stops and all mounted to a heavy iron bracket attached to the backboard, seconds beating, faceted glass vial and invar or lead temperature-compensating pendulum with painted wooden rod attached to iron backplate and beating against a highly figured walnut backboard, silvered beat scale, key and holder, all powered by a brass-cased weight, ht. 94 in.

Wonderful original condition, original surface, all carving intact, original dial, hands, pulley, weight, beat scale, key and holder, pendulum rod and glass vial. Vial now filled with lead or invar. Old crack on top of vial. All case glass appears to be original. Dial silvering appears to be original. I have never seen a better No. 61.
