No. 77 Mahogany "Hall" Clock, Roxbury, Massachusetts, c. 1890, the carved gothic hood with central pitched pediment and grotesque mask flanked by plinth towers supporting carved finials and buttressed with carved foo dogs, the glazed hood door with round opening and carved corner spandrels over the 14-in. silvered brass arabic numeral dial with seconds dial and signed E. Howard & Co./Boston, the waist door with carving and full-length beveled plate glass reveal the two cylindrical brass weights and damascened brass-face pendulum bob and gilded wooden rod, the plain base and simple two-stage base molding, eight-day brass movement with maintaining power, rack and snail strike on a gong, and deadbeat escapement all mounted to a heavy cast iron bracket supporting the mechanical elements, ht. 106 in.
Note: A letter to the owner of the clock in Miami Beach, Florida, from Howard Clock Products, Inc., dated November 5, 1941, stated that "these clocks were made entirely in the old factory at Roxbury, Mass., cases included, from 1887-1897 and were sold at $350 each..."
