Dutch Infantry Musket, last quarter of the 18th century, 43 1/4 in., .80 caliber round barrel with ring decoration at the breech, "V" stamped at the breech and "GENERALITEIT" engraved on the top; double bridled lock with convex surface plate and pointed tail, stamped in front of the cock is stamped "ID/KULEN/BURG" below a crown in a sunken cartouche, the inside of the lock plate is stamped "PG" in a sunken rectangular cartouche; walnut stock with pronounced plateaus carved around the lock mortice, side plate, and breech plug tang, "AT" carved on the bottom of the butt, "IC" and an incomplete mark stamped behind the trigger guard; brass furniture including butt plate with a pointed tang engraved "IN.72" and "2B6I/2B," thumb piece engraved "FoNo=31," trigger guard with pointed finials, "S" form slightly convex side plate, and three barrel retaining bands; steel bayonet spring clip at front of fore stock; original sling swivels; steel rammer with trumpeted head engraved "IN.72," overall lg. 58 1/2 in.
Condition
Condition: Musket is in good overall condition, while the appearance of the vent area is suggestive of a reconverstion, there is no obvious evidence of a reconversion when viewed from the inside with a bore scope, iron is toned to a mottled gray/brown and shows evidence of prior cleaning; stock has scattered dings and dents and an area of loss at the upper back edge o the lock mortice; brass toned to a dull yellow.
