- Lot Description
Dino Martens (Italian, 1894-1970) for Aureliano Toso Vulcano Lamp Base, Murano, Italy, c. 1952, ruby purple and opalescent gold ground glass with mixed yellow and gray powders together with a filigree to form the "windows," ht. 31 in.
Literature: Vetreria Aureliano Toso 1938-1968, Marc Heiremans, p. 35, and Dino Martens: Muranese Glass Designer, Heiremans, p. 165 illustrates variation.
Note: Martens was an Italian painter and designer, particularly noted for his glass work. He trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti and his paintings were exhibited at the Venice Biennale (1924-1930). Post-WW2, He became the artistic director of Aureliano Toso producing many noted works using traditional Venetian techniques as well as original t6echniques marked by their obvious difficulty of execution. This series was the precursor of the renowned Oriente series.Condition
