Colt U.S. Navy Model 1909 Double-action Revolver Marked to the USS Utah BB-31, 1911, serial number 52310, .45 Colt caliber, blued-steel frame and barrel, barrel with appropriate Colt manufacturer markings, walnut grips stamped "UTAH" on the right side, bottom of butt marked "U.S.N./.45 DA/No./310," barrel lg. 5 1/2 in.
Provenance: Correspondence from the Colt Archive documents this revolver has being sold to the United States Government and shipped to "General Storekeeper, Navy Yard, New York, April 12, 1916."
The USS
Utah BB-31 was launched in December of 1909 and was one of eighteen United States naval vessels sunk or destroyed as a result of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941.
