Davis, Richardson Light Infantry, 7th Independent Battery, Massachusetts Light Artillery, c. 1861, .31 caliber, serial number 187402 (all matching except wedge), walnut grip, brass backstrap engraved "R.L.I./Capt. P.A. Davis from Geo. F. Richardson," no finish remaining, barrel lg. 5 in.
Note: Captain Davis formed the Richardson Light Infantry in honor of Congressman George F. Richardson of Massachusetts. He was commissioned on April 20, 1861, and was at Fortress Monroe till March 17, 1862, when the unit became the 7th Independent Battery, Massachusetts Light Artillery. He was promoted to Assistant Adjutant General of the 10th Corps and was seriously wounded at Darbeytown Road in 1864. He received three brevets for gallantry and was mustered out as a Colonel on May 19, 1866.
