• Lot Description
  Collection of New-in-box Vivitar Camera Lenses and Accessories, auto focus flashes, various focal length and f-stop lenses for multiple camera makes.
  
  Provenance: James B. Handsman started out at 715 Boylston St., his shop known as the "Handsman Craftsman," located above the Dunkin Donuts, across from Lord & Taylor. He attended a local camera repair training school in Boston, and it was there that he was taught the fine art of detailed restoration, and quickly honed his love of engineering mechanics, bringing quality instruments back to their intended usage.
  
  Later he renovated his studio/store on 362 Commonwealth Ave., as "THE CAMERA CRAFTSMAN." He was sought after by famous celebrities both near and far, and even the US Agricultural department, to repair the cameras they used. Jim was always busy long into the night, repairing vintage cameras for local colleges and photographers who enjoyed the craft as much as he did. He was quite a skilled photographer as well. His answering machine tag line was "Thank you friends and customers from around the world."
  
  
  Jim was a known figure in and around Boston - he loved his career, his craft, and his neighborhood, and his dear sweet loving companion cats, Bernsteen and Arielle, and he took civic pride in his gardening skills. He had many friends and colleagues, and was always invited to share in their events.
  
  
  I do hope you treasure Jim's vast collection- a lifetime labor of love-so much individual time spent to restore and maintain professional relationships with his thousands of clients over so many decades. We have truly lost a man of great skill and a truly remarkable gentleman, who always enjoyed a good joke and his smile and beautiful mind is certainly something to remember.
