Literature:
Rich and Tasty: Vermont Furniture to 1850, by Jean M. Burks and Philip Zea (Shelburne Museum, Shelburne, Vermont), shows closely related examples on pp. 66-67. There, the pieces shown are described as the "only known works by this cabinetmaker." The present lot is now another. The entry further notes: "the distinctive swag and tassel inlaid frieze, which is an application of neoclassical ornament found on some painted and stenciled interior wall borders of New England houses."
Condition
