N.B. After studying art in New York, Charles Warren Eaton made his first trip to Europe in 1886 with fellow American artists Leonard Ochtman and Ben Foster. Eaton painted in France, Belgium, Holland, and England during that first visit abroad, and he returned to Europe each year thereafter until the outbreak of World War I. After 1900, he began to concentrate his annual trips on Belgium and Holland, often capturing the picturesque landscape of Bruges and its environs in his paintings.
Estimate $8,000-10,000
The work has an old thick varnish. Some of the pigments have natural fluorescence, but it is possible there is some old retouch under there as well (see UV images).
Framed dimensions are 16 1/4 x 20 1/4 x 1 in. and the frame appears to be period.
