- Lot Description
Carved and Painted Birdwatcher Figure, George R. Huey (1866-1937), Friendship, Maine, early 20th century, the standing gentleman with red-painted binoculars on a string around his neck, on a trapezoidal base, deeply incised inscription on the underside reads "HANDCARVED WORK OF GR HUEY FRIENDSHIP," (imperfections), ht. 9 in.
Note: George R. Huey was a decoy carver who worked in Friendship, Maine, and today is known especially for his sculptural merganser decoys.
Estimate $400-600
some repaint, especially to the back, feet, and mustache; some repair, especially to feet.
