British School, 19th Century
Two Prints from the Illustrated London News: The Ship "Mersey" 40 Guns and The Gun-Boat "Lee" and Rebels at Nankin
Mersey inscribed in the block "EW" l.l. and "Smyth Sc" l.r., both titled within the eglomise mats.
Hand-colored wood engravings, image sizes 9 1/4 x 13 1/4 in. (23.5 x 33.7 cm), in matching eglomise mats and frames.
Condition: Not examined out of frames.
N.B. Researching the titles of the prints yielded the following information: The rebels or Taipings at Nankin opening fire upon the Lee gun-boat was published as a full page in The Illustrated London News April 2, 1859. The new steam-frigate "Mersey" 40 guns was published as a full page in The Illustrated London News, May 7, 1859. The artist/engraver is listed as EW/Smyth.Condition
Condition: Framed dimensions are 16 1/2 x 20 1/2 x 1 inches.
