Blue Transfer Commemorative Bowl of Lord Nelson, England, c. 1800-1810, pearlware bowl printed in blue underglaze, portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) at center, flanked by trophies surrounded by floral wreaths, with inscription "ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY," "ADMIRAL LORD NELSON," "Copenhagen Nile 1798," "Trafalgar 1805," and the verse: "Shew me my Country’s Foes,/The Hero cry’d;/He saw-He faught [
sic]-He conquer’d,/And he di’d" above, and "Dear to his Country,/shall his Mem’ry live;/But sorrow drown’s the Joy,/His Deeds should give" below, dia. 8 3/4 in.
