Hand-colored engravings on paper, plate sizes 18 3/4 x 15 1/2 in. (47.3 x 39.2 cm), in matching frames.
Condition: Gentle rippling, both appear to have been lined onto a supporting sheet, not examined out of frames.

Hortus Eystethensis was published in 1613, with plates engraved by Wolfgang Kilian (German, 1581-1662). Based solely on the collection of Besler's patron, the Bishop of Eichstatt, the compendium was the first pictorial record of flowers from a single garden. The two volumes presented over 1,000 flowers in 374 plates, organized according to the seasons.
