AutoRegulator S/N 1, Robert Shannon, Leominster, Massachusetts, dual timing trains display Mean Solar Time and Local Sidereal Time independently, Mean Solar Time train features a perpetual calendar, day of week, equation of time and moon-phase complications, provisions exist to execute leap seconds, and daylight savings operations with absolute precision, patented barometric complication that shows the current barometric pressure along with an animated display of the pressure over the past 24 hours, 11-inch Astronomical dial is driven by high reliability industrial automation components, reversing the design philosophy of quartz watches, bronze bells implement chime, strike and minute repeat functions, additional dials are driven by independent controllers connected to the master clock, electronic control console is hidden behind a panel located at the base of the regulator, dials float over an engineered stone back panel, Atomic timekeeping is implemented by a Symmetricom SA.45 Chip-Scale Atomic Clock module with a rate accuracy of about 157 microseconds per year (5*10-12, ADEV TAU = 1000 sec,) internal diagnostic checks are run continuously and can be monitored on the hidden console, internal uninterruptable power supply will maintain operation and accuracy for a limited period, electrical chronograph contacts for both mean solar and sidereal time trains, and a serial data output are provided, housed in a custom curly maple case by D.R. Dimes Inc., ht. 7 ft.
Provenance: The estate of David G. Newsom.
Note: This clock in the first production AutoRegulator. AutoRegulators are a new class of precision clocks. These horological robots are precision clocks that include a built-in observatory and clockmaker. This clock automatically monitors and adjusts its rate to an accuracy of milliseconds per century, and a precision of less than 50 nanoseconds. This level of accuracy and precision are achieved by a combination of a cesium atomic clock and the GPS system.
