An artist and sculptor with several works in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, "Orne" grew up on Moss Hill, a 200-acre plot in Jamaica Plain purchased by her grandfather in the mid-19th century. Her great-grandfather was the noted mathematician Nathaniel Bowditch (1773 -1838), often credited as the founder of modern maritime navigation and author of The New American Practical Navigator, first published in 1802, and still carried on board every commissioned U.S. Naval vessel.
