N.B. Rodin has long been known for his sensual yet muscular figures of women. Tête de la Luxure derives from a detail of his 1882 Femme Accroupie, which was created for a set of bronze doors for the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, better known as The Gates of Hell. This same figure was also adapted into the composition for Je Suis Belle, also a part of the Gates.
Estimate $18,000-22,000
The work is not affixed to its marble base. There is normal wear from the handling of the work, but no abrasions or damage, per se, to the patina. Some plaster residue to the interior. There is unobtrusive dust and grime within some of the interstices, but there are no other condition issues to report.
