Woman at a Well
Signed "Engler" u.r.
Oil on canvas, 37 x 25 in. (93.7 x 63.4 cm), framed.
Condition: Craquelure, natural pigment fluorescence in the dark brown paint.
N.B. Few paintings by Friedrich Georg Engler have come to auction, but there are a handful of examples for comparison. In particular, the work at hand seems to relate to an oil offered by Sotheby's New York, A North African Woman, Old Master and 19th Century European Paintings - Drawings and Watercolors, June 6, 1986, Lot 202. The signature style is also similar, although the Sotheby's example includes the first initial "F."Condition
Condition: Framed dimensions are 41 1/2 x 29 1/2 x 1 7/8 inches.
