Andrew Newell Wyeth (American, 1917-2009)
Study for "Race Gate"
Inscribed and signed "Study for/"Race Gate"/A. Wyeth" l.r., identified on labels from Babcock Galleries, New York; Ann Kendall Richards, Inc., New York; and Frank E. Fowler, Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, all affixed to the frame backing.
Watercolor and pencil on paper, sight size 11 7/8 x 28 1/2 in. (30.0 x 72.3 cm), framed.
Condition: Two sheets each measuring 11 7/8 x 14 1/4 are abutted on the vertical axis at the center, not examined out of frame.
Provenance: Private collection, La Quinta, California; Frank E. Fowler, Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, 1985; Private collection, Fukushima, Japan, circa 1990; Christie's East, June 15, 2000, Lot 284; unknown private collection; Doyle New York, American and European Paintings and Sculpture, December 5, 2001, Lot 99; through to the current private collection.
