Portrait of Captain George Waugh (c. 1760-1814)
Subject's name and date "1781" inscribed in paint on the reverse.
Oil on canvas, the subject shown bust length with his property beyond, 30 x 25 in., in a giltwood frame.
Condition: Two old patches, minor inpaint.
Note: According to the consignor, Captain George Waugh is listed in the History of Orange County, Virginia, as having served in the Revolutionary War, and having died in Virginia in 1814. Despite the inscription on the reverse, this painting must have been completed in the early 19th century.
