American Militia Musket, c. 1776-1780, converted to percussion, 46 15/16 in., .80 caliber round French barrel with octagonal beech and top flat extending to the muzzle sight/bayonet lug, marked on the top of the breech "I.Fc" and a deep crescent-shaped mark below the barrel conversion; large French Model 1717-type flat surface lock plate with beveled edges, pointed and groove and step tail stamped with a fleur-de-lis, the area in front of the percussion hammer stamped with a fleur-de-lis, "V," and "I.Fc," the interior of the lock plate stamped with what appears to be a "2T"; tiger maple stock with large butt and simple plateaus carved around the lock and side plate mortices; iron furniture of French form including a butt plate with short blunted point tang, trigger guard with pointed finials, "S"-form side plate, three rammer pipes with beaded ends made for a wood rammer, narrow sheet brass nose band, wooden rammer with flaring brass tip, overall lg. 63 1/4 in.
Condition
Condition: Metal toned to a deep brown, the breech with minor pitting; internal parts of lock appear to be original, side nail connected to pan extending through the stock with a round screw head-style "bolt" on the side plate side, the forward side nail is old; stock has very minor scuffs, small loss around rear barrel pin on the left side, likely old refinish; rammer likely dates to the later 19th century.
