Allan Grant (American, 1919-2008)
Election Night, 1946, printed 1976. Titled and dated l.l., signed "Allan Grant" l.r., with artist's studio stamps on the verso of the mount. Gelatin silver print, 14 x 16 5/8 in., framed. Condition: Good.
N.B. LIFE Magazine photographer Allan Grant captures the moment that Congress Member Joe Martin, Republican of Massachusetts, learns that his party flipped fifty-five seats to regain control from the Democrats. After Republicans took majority control of the House, Martin became the 44th Speaker of the House. He served in Congress from 1924-1967. Grant's photograph was featured in a double-page spread in the post-election issue on November 18, 1946.Condition
