Provenance: Sold for the benefit of the Higginson 1908 Foundation, donated by the Harvard Club of Boston. Originally a gift from William Germain Dooley (1904-1975), art critic, writer and educator of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

N.B. This painting depicts a Cambridge, Massachusetts landmark; Adolphus Busch Hall at Harvard University. Harvard's Busch-Reisinger Museum was founded in 1901 as the Germanic Museum. In 1921 the Germanic Museum moved to Adolphus Busch Hall, built partly with funds from Adolphus BuschÆs son-in-law, Hugo Reisinger. In 1950 it was renamed the Busch-Reisinger Museum.

Condition: Framed dimensions are 33 x 43 3/4 x 1 inches.
Areas of craquelure and flaking, including in treetops at u.r. corner, tree trunks in l.r. corner, a line of smal losses close to the signature l.l., losses to the trees at c.l. edge to the left of the tower. Scattered surface imperfections to the sky. Upon close inspection, there is some faint underdrawing or pentimento in the sky suggesting more buidlings were considered for inclusion in the skyline.
