Condition
Condition: Framed dimensions are 23 1/2 X 31 1/2 X 4 in.
There is an illegible inscription on the stretcher which may have to do with the original purchase, as it seems to read, "Mrs....Paid," but this is really only a guess.
The painting has been professionally conserved with minimum intervention. Retouch appears to be very minor, with only two small dots in the sky above the mountain tops and perhaps some fine lines in that general area. Some natural fluorescence to the dark brown pigment in l.r. corner.
Concerning the lining, it appears that the canvas has been skillfully strip lined, and perhaps with a resin coating added to the old original canvas. The work is restretched on what appears to be the original stretcher. Please note that this is shared as an opinion only, since we don't have a conservator on staff.
