Adams Private Contract British Dragoon Pistol, mid-18th century, 10 in., .67 caliber round barrel with ring decorated breech and London Company of Gunmaker's proof marks on the left side; slightly curved convex unbridled lock with single line border engraving, the pointed tail engraved "ADAMS" and a crown engraved below the pan, steel spring with large pointed finial, assembly number "III" on the edges of the steel; walnut stock with carved plateau around the breech plug tang, the inside of the lock mortice marked with assembly number "III"; brass furniture including a butt cap with short upward pointing lobes, thumb piece, trigger guard with acorn finial, convex side plate with concave inner surface marked with assembly number "III," and two sheet brass rammer pipes; iron rammer with trumpet tip, overall lg. 16 3/4 in.
Condition
Condition: Iron toned to a mottled brown with very minor underlying pitting around vent and pan areas; stock has scattered dings and dents, repaired break through the wrist, wood loss to rear of lock mortice, wood loss to lower edge of the front of the lock mortice, repaired crack and area of wood restoration at tip of forestock; brass toned to yellow with areas of dark oxidation.
