JENNENS, LONDON, RETAILED BY HOWARD & CO, NEW YORK, LATE 19TH CENTURY, with a rectangular cushion caddy form top centering flaming urn cast finial and side scrolling brackets, above ribbon tied floral garlands within corner flaming urn finials, over a conforming case with angled corner maiden bust modeled mounts flanking pierced seraphim spandrels, above an arched glass door with foliate bound reeding frame opening to a conforming face, centering a silvered ring dial with black Roman chapters encircled by black five minute Arabic numerals above a central tab engraved "HOWARD & Co / NEW YORK," over reticulated cut gun metal steel hands and triple key escapements on a textured gilt face, beneath triple silvered ring dials with black engraved "CHIME/SILENT, SLOW/FAST, and WESTMINSTER CHIMES/CHIME ON EIGHT BELLS," with gun metal hands, amidst applied "C" scroll and floral spandrels, reversing to a chartreuse silk lined pierced brass quatre foil paneled door opening to a brass cover plate, elegantly engraved with acanthus leaf and fan decoration enclosed by guilloché banding and mounted with hammer strike chromed bell, above a suspended brass pendulum with circular engraved adjustable bob, before a block hammer strike coiled metal gong, interior stamped "J.C. JENNENS / LONDON," within exterior foliate detailed side bronze handles over reticulated radiating cherub mask and scrolls panels with chartreuse silk lining, above a cavetto base and conforming plinth centering a floral pendant above corner flowering acanthus bracket feet, includes crank winding key, and two small door keys. Good, professionally restored condition with a few spots of minor edge wear, and expected age shrinkage cracks. The mounts are brightly gilt, while the clock mechanism is nice and clean.
