A GROUP OF 138 ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE CIRCUS/SIDESHOW POSTCARDS AND RELATED EPHEMERA, CIRCA 1880s-1980s, thirty American, French, German, and Dutch Barnum & Bailey black/white printed photo postcards of their parades, performances with horses, elephants, acrobats, as well as clowns, various stages of set-up, the setting up of the "Hippodrome," the Grand Tent, and various ones of long railcars loaded with packed circus wagons, and their passenger trains titled "BARNUM & BAILEY GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH," followed by approximately twenty-eight cards of various performers such as Alfredo Codona, Jack Oliver, the Bruno Kramer Trio, the Kremo Family, another Kremo Family photo postcard with them wearing their beautiful circus costumes and signed "Familie Kremo" dated April 1913, the Marvellous Cliftons, the Rolands Trio, Sandwinas, a photo postcard of the Karl Eugen Troupe with rubber stamped "Paul Schultze /Circus & Variety Agency / Berlin SW," the Charly Siegrist Troupe, American Florence Troupe of Acrobats, Rudy & Freddy Walker "Cake Walkers, a photo card of Lavinia Warren (Tom Thumb's widow) with Count Primi Magri (her second husband) circa 1885, Eugene Coltin of The Flying Mars, and others, as well as a paperback book "BUFFALO BILL / The Boy Who Made The Man," by his Grandson Bill Cody, 1969, first edition, signed by author in green pencil, together with three portrait postcards of Buffalo Bill, two printed in color, the third an early black/white photo postcard inscribed in pencil on reverse "Wm. Frederick Cody / Born 1846 in Scott County / Iowa, Died Jan 18th 1917 / in Denver, Colorado." Provenance: Estate of Ross Gibson Wandrey, Houston, Texas

Mostly in good condition, some postmarked with stamp and brief handwritten message, the paper on some ephemera has normal darkening, worn edges, spots, foxing, fading, and light general wear from age, and handling. A few b/w photos were obviously pulled from an old photo album and have small tears and album residue on reverse. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
