A GEORGE III STYLE MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK, BY MAPLE & CO LTD, LONDON, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, the rectangular box form bonnet topped by triple urn finials on a cornice centering a molded arch ending on corner fluted panels, flanking a glazed door opening to a conforming gilt brass panel with four silvered ring dials and the largest with black hour Roman chapters alternating black stylized fleur-de-lys, beneath black Arabic quarter hour numerals and marked at base "MAPLE & Co. LTD. LONDON," enclosing a small silvered seconds ring dial with gilt metal hand over pierced black cut steel hands and triple key escapements on a textured gilt face, cornered by reticulated gilt scrolling seraphim spandrels beneath similarly cast mounts surrounding paired silvered ring dials of "CHIME/SILENT," and "WESTMINSTER CHIMES/WHITTINGTON CHIMES," verso brass and steel clockworks with dome bells, hammer strike coiled gong, triple barrels wound with braided brass cords suspending matching cylinder sheathed weights and a long steel ribbon pendulum ending with an adjustable brass disc bob, verso enclosed by a blind fretwork carved band over a long pendulum case with double arched rectangular door centering an applied trellis and star oval panel, above a matching fretwork band within tapered molding trim on a rectangular block base centering a recessed blind fretwork framed panel, raised on an arched plinth ending as shaped block feet, includes one bonnet key, one pendulum door key, and one winding lever. Condition
The case is in good antique condition with expected old scratches, scuff marks, dings, minor nicks, age cracks, uneven patina, some small touch ups, normal general wear, and surface buildup in crevices. The clock face and works have tarnish, some small oxidized spots, expected wear, refreshed black details on ring dials, and surface dust buildup in crevices.
