A GEORGE III INLAID FLAME MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK, SIGNED BRIGG KIGHLEY, HMS 1795 RODNEY, LATE 18TH CENTURY, the arched rectangular hand painted dial with conforming lunar phases and paired northern hemisphere global maps, above a white painted ring dial with black Roman chapters beneath Arabic minute numerals, enclosing a dial face with a charming portrayal of a forest thicket with emerging gentleman hunter wearing black hat and red overcoat holding a rifle while gesturing to his two hounds on a grassy knoll, before a meandering river and distant city with spires and cupolas beneath an atmospheric sky, centering twin key escapements flanking reticulated cut steel hands above an arched aperture with Arabic fifth numbered days of month, ring dial base inscribed "BRIGG KIGHLEY / HMS 1795 RODNEY," each exterior corner is painted with a little girl representing the four seasons and wearing a long white dress while holding a season's attributes, set within a bonnet case with scrolling broken arched and molded pediment with scroll tips ending in brass repoussé profile roundels of King George III marked "G / III / R," opposite Queen Charlotte marked "C / R," flanking an elliptical floret inlaid block pedestal surmounted by a brass ball spire finial within two matching side corner finials and enclosing pierced panels, over a conforming hinged and glazed door flanked by disengaged fluted Doric colonnettes with gilt brass capitals, above a tapering molded entablature centering stylized fretwork banding and a finely grained mahogany frieze, over a long ogee arched rectangular door with brass lock stamped "HOMES / LONDON," and "MACHINE / MADE / LEVER," opening to a metal strip pendulum with brass disc bob and interior back with partially legible inscription "John .... / 1796," within exterior corners of quarter round Doric fluted pilasters on tall plinths and raised on a rectangular base with canted corners on a stepped molding plinth and shaped bracket feet, includes one door key, winding key, pendulum, and two lead suspension weights. Height including finials: Height: 99 3/4" Width: 22 1/2" Depth: 10 3/4" Note: The Brigg family name is a distinguished English name with ancestral data going back to the 16th century and one branch emanating from Kighley, a township/parish in England, United Kingdom. Provenance: Well-traveled Private Collector, Houston, TexasGood condition for antique Georgian clocks of this age, use, and materials including but not limited to normal scuff marks, scratches, some fading, wear on gilt brass mounts, dings, expected small chips, old restorations, repairs, age shrinkage cracks, and the minute hand is loose. The painted dial face has craquelure, a few small old scratches, and surface buildup, but has good colors, is nicely detailed, and is in good condition.
