A FINE LOUIS XVI STYLE ORMOLU MOUNTED TULIPWOOD BUREAU PLAT AND CARTONNIER, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, in the gout Grec taste,the associated white marble clock with gilt bronze putti centering a circular white enamel dial, enclosing Arabic numerals within painted floral swags signed "France," surrounding blued steel hands, set above a cavetto with corner acanthus leaf bronze pendants and a frieze of crisply cast Greek-key banding, over four compartments trimmed in beading and fitted with four removable blue marble paper wrapped and gilt tooled green leather faced cartons à archive with gilt pulls enclosed by sides and back inlaid à quatre faces, on a lower cabinet with same inlay and side doors opening to an adjustable single shelf interior, raised on foliate wrapped gilt-bronze twist fluted legs, height: 62" width: 36" depth: 10 1/4"; adjoining a matching bureau plat with a gilt tooled green leather inset writing surface framed by mahogany cross banding enclosed by a burnished and pounced encadrement, over working paired side drawers with à quatre faces parquetry and beaded trim centering acanthus and laurel garland modeled escutcheons, partitioned by block spinning paterae mounts and raised on matching block paterae capitals above berried laurel detailed swags on tapering square form legs within corner molding ending on foliate wrapped twist fluted bronze sabots, includes one key. Height: 30 3/8" Length: 62 3/8" Depth: 36" Provenance: Property from a Prominent River Oaks Estate Collection, Houston, Texas Property from a Prominent River Oaks Estate Collection, Houston, TexasGood condition for French desks of this age, use and materials including but not limited to expected light wear of all tooled leather areas, small oxidized spots on some of the bronzes, age cracks, some normal light scratches scattered about, a few small chips (less than 1/25"), bureau plat top has some normal light glass ring marks and discolorations throughout, surface buildup. The clock is associated and the interior clockworks have been replaced with a modern battery operated mechanism. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
