Two Belmont Park Champion Steeple Chase Sterling Silver Trophies, 1905 and 1906, each marked with date and "STERLING / 925 / S.5968" with "84" scratch mark, engraved within oak acorn branch wreaths for owner Thomas Hitchcock, Jr. and Bay Gelding Hylas, each urn with gold-washed interior, two Mercury masque and snake form handles, lid with foliate finial, and raised on a round foot. Weight: 380.40 ozt.; each overall: 20.5" H x 16" W x 13" D. Note: Tommy Hitchcock, Jr. was a polo player, aviator, and Lieutenant Colonel during WWII; he also served as inspiration to writer F.
