LOT NOTES This portrait of a man, demonstrating Shukhaev‰s exceptional abilities as an artist and a draughtsman, was done by Shukhaev in 1950, three short years after his move to Georgia in 1947. Shukhaev was "rehabilitated" by the Soviet government after his imprisonment in Magadan in the Kolyma Region of the Russian Far East, from 1937-1947, for the crime of "counter-revolutionary activities". In Tbilisi, Shukhaev taught at the Academy of Arts, and he remained a resident of Georgia until his death in 1973.
