LOT NOTES
As one of China`s leading contemporary artists, part of Liu Liguo`s appeal lies in his uncanny ability to masterfully blend the refined and the crass, never failing to surprise, and at times even shock, the viewer. LiuÕs work is frequently described as Òdripping with sensualityÓ Ð as exemplified by the present lot, which features a pair of porcelain vases with delicate traditional representation of oversized peaches and peach trees (symbols of longevity) frequently seen in hand-painted famille-rose porcelain. The porcelain vessels, in this case, however, are in the form of a pair of human feet with red-painted toenails. At once enticing and repulsive, the combination serves to elevate the ordinary, and bring the formerly inaccessible to the everyday.
