BILIBIN, Ivan Yakovlevich (1876-1942), illustrator. Skazki Pushkina. Skazka o zolotom petushke [Pushkin Tales. The Tale of the Golden Cockerel]. Saint Petersburg: Ekspeditsiya zagotovleniya gosudarstvennykh bumag, 1907. Original color lithographed wrappers. 12 pages. Oblong folio (257 x 327 mm). Illustrated throughout with chromolithographs, some full-page.
Bilibin was one of the best-known members of the Mir Iskusstva [World of Art] group. He was the greatest illustrator of Russia`s skazki or fairy tales and was a distinguished set and costume designer. The illustrations for Aleksandr Pushkin`s The Tale of Tsar Saltan and The Tale of the Golden Cockerel are amongst artist`s best renown works in the field of book graphics. The compositions from the present lot considered to be the most important and characteristic for Bilibin`s oeuvre. - Shipping Info
