A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD OF THE UNEXPECTED JOY, 19TH CENTURY

the upper register features the scene of a kneeling sinner in front of the icon of the Mother of God who speaks to him in dispraise, surrounded by the selected saints, four on each side. The lower register depicts Saint Apostles Peter and Paul holding a church, with ten saints surrounding them, including evangelists, apostles and theologians.
