A RUSSIAN ICON OF NATIVITY OF THE MOTHER OF GOD, 19TH CENTURY
the central scene depicts Saint Anna and Saint Joachim seated at the table with handmaidens by their side, holding the newborn Mary. The scene of a midwife and a servant preparing a bath for the newborn completes the composition. Egg tempera, gold leaf and gesso on wood panel.
