A PAIR OF ANTIQUE PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER SETS, KONIGLICHE PORZELLAN MANUFAKTUR, BERLIN, 1837-1844, ROYAL PORCELAIN FACTORY, COPENHAGEN, 1830-1845
The KPM cup and saucer set featuring pink and black decoration on a white ground, the gadrooned sides of the cup with romantic symbols including hand-painted swans, lyres, and butterflies, the saucer with conforming decoration and an additional inscription on the cavetto in celebration of Valentine`s Day Den 14. Februar 1843, height of cup: 6.5 cm (2 1/2 in.), diameter of saucer: 15.6 cm (6 1/8 in.), blue underglazed factory mark on base; the Royal Copenhagen set in Empire style, the cup and saucer with extensive gilded decoration on a cobalt blue ground, the cup body encircled with a delicate garland of gilded ivy, on a flared foot, with a scrolling handle, the saucer with conforming decoration, height of cup: 11.5 cm (4 1/2 in.), diameter of saucer: 14.3 cm (5 5/8 in.), blue underglazed factory mark on base
