Menorcan Hepplewhite style chairs, ca.1790. 2 armchairs and 10 chairs. Walnut wood. Measurements: 94 x 52 x 50 cm. chairs; 93 x 58 x 50 cm. armchairs. Menorcan armchairs composed of two armchairs and ten chairs. All of them have the same structure, with front legs in stipes and decorative grooves. The backs are finely carved, with a slight undulation in the form of a crest and a vertical structure of parallel shafts with a subtle upper opening, a design clearly inspired by the works of George Hepplewhite (1727-1786), whose furniture dominated the English market in the last quarter of the 18th century. George Hepplewhithe (1727 - 1786) was an important maker of chairs and cabinets, one of the "big three" of 18th century English cabinetmaking, along with Thomas Sheraton and Thomas Chippendale. Hepplewhite gave his name to an entire style, light and elegant, which was fashionable from the last quarter of the 18th century through the 19th century and continues to be valued today.
