LUIS FERNANDO PELÁEZ (Jericó, Antioquia, Colombia, 1945)
"Sur II (Cow)", 2003.
Mixed technique. Iron, glass, and resins.
Provenance: Fernando Pradilla Gallery (Madrid).
Measures: 120 x 50 x 25 cm.
The work belongs to the Sur series, for which the artist was inspired by the poem "Morada al sur", by the Colombian poet Aurelio Arturo, which deals with the landscape and the past from a nostalgic point of view. The piece that picks up this atmosphere of the poem, is starred by a cow inserted in a sea of resin, which seems to want to cross, migrating to the surface. This material, together with the rust of the metal, are not casual, but seek to convey a sense of transmutation of the passage of time. A similar work was exhibited at the 2019 Paris fair, however, in this case the protagonist was a bull.
Luis Fernando Peláez is a Colombian artist who began his academic training linked to architecture. Despite this, he decided to dedicate himself professionally to sculpture, although he also works with other supports, such as photography. He has held numerous exhibitions and has participated in important artistic events, among which are, the 2014 Vancouver Biennial, ARCO 2005, the Sixth Architecture Biennial (2005) and the XXV Sao Paulo Biennial (2002).
