Like Mozart for music, Bobby Fisher for chess, little William James for mathematics or Pablo Picasso for painting, Juan Cortés Amaya, "Juanito" for family and friends, amazes art connoisseurs with his colourful and vibrant large-format paintings. He painted his first work at the age of 6 and by the age of 8 he was exhibiting in an art gallery in Madrid. Like a new Jackson Pollock, Juanito faces the canvas with surprising confidence. He works by resting the canvas horizontally on the ground and on its surface he sometimes spreads it out, and at other times he drops paint and other objects that are integrated into the work and which add shape and colour as well as plasticity. Watching Juan in the midst of the creative process is a delight. It is enjoyable to see how he develops his idea and the ease with which he mixes and applies the colours to the blank canvases. This passion comes from his great-grandfather, an antique dealer by profession, and from his art-loving father, who passed it on to his son. Of gypsy ethnicity, and a resident of Badalona, he has presented his paintings at several international fairs, in Spain, Italy and Monaco. His Abstract Expressionism style is the result of a very particular perception: "I am inspired by everything I see, everything that has lines, shapes and colours. I go out in the street and I only see colour and lines'. He is clear about what he wants: "I want my works to always express joy, happiness and all that is good. I never want them to convey anything bad'. And he tells how inspiration comes to him: 'I go about my normal routine and suddenly inspiration strikes me. Then nobody can stop me, I put on my flip-flops, my clothes and I think about what the background is going to be like. Among his references, Juanito Cortés talks about Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Paul Klee, Franz Kline, Vasili Kandinsky or his favourite, Joan Miró. -At his young age he has already participated in several exhibitions.
