Artist Bio:
Helen Frankenthaler (1928?2011) is known for her pioneering contributions to Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting. She developed the "soak-stain" technique, applying thinned paint to unprimed canvas, creating luminous color washes that integrate with the canvas. Her influential work, Mountains and Sea (1952), exemplifies this method. Frankenthaler's innovative approach significantly impacted postwar American art, inspiring artists like Morris Louis and Kenneth Noland.
