Few World Series programs from the Deadball Era have survived the test of time. This is the Brush Stadium edition from the 1911 Fall Classic when the Philadelphia Athletics defeated the New York Giants in six-games. The Athletics' pitching trio of Eddie Plank, Chief Bender and Jack Coombs held New York to just eight earned runs and a .175 batting average. Frank Baker’s three home runs in the series earned him his enduring nickname. Connie Mack's A's secured their second of three World Series titles in a four-year span. Meanwhile, John McGraw’s Giants lost their first of three consecutive World Series.
This scarce program and scorecard from well over a century ago was available for purchase at New York's Brush Stadium (later renamed Polo Grounds) for the price of ten cents. While still intact and bound, the front and back covers have rough edges and some missing corners. Thankfully, the inside pages with the lineups, score sheets, team photos and team executive images are in better shape. Both team scorecards are un-scored, which most collectors prefer, and there are no pencil or pen marks on any pages that we could find. Overall, it comes in GOOD condition with the loose cover, now bound by just the two upper staples, being the worst kept page.
