Circa 1955 original photograph of Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown during his college days at Syracuse University. Brown can be seen during a photoshoot with his helmet off, striking the 'Heisman Pose'. He was in his junior year and finally being featured in the offense. Syracuse didn't want any African Americans playing for them. Syracuse lacrosse star Kenneth Molloy was a benefactor of Brown and persuaded the university to admit him. Brown was the only African American on the football team in 1953 and his promises of a full scholarship were not honored. With perseverance he worked his way up from the coaches wanting to put him in at punter, to becoming a beloved star who would eventually have his number retired.
The black and white photograph remains in good condition with no major blemishes. A clean capture of Brown's face and body along with the background exist. Very few examples of original photos of Brown during college are known to exist. This is a very rare opportunity to grab and extremely early type 1 of one of the best to ever play the game.
Brown was drafted 6th overall by the Browns in 1957 after playing college ball at Syracuse University. He was unanimously named the Offensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player (one of two players to achieve this in NFL history).
