It is almost impossible to think of soccer without recalling the greatness of Pele. The Brazilian superstar soccer’s equivalent of Babe Ruth, becoming completely synonymous with the sport he excelled at and known the world over. In his career playing for the Brazil National Team, Pele led his country to three World Cup Championships. The last one was in 1970 when he began the final match against Italy by heading in Brazil’s first goal. Brazil won, 4-1, and Pele took home the Golden Ball as the player of the tournament. This Type 1 photo shows Pele and the Brazil National Team lining up before one of the 1970 World Cup games. His team photo measures 5” x 7” and has been printed to its edges. There is some edge wear and small creases along its edges, but none intrude into the image of the players. The reverse of the photo has the Sport-Bild-Vertrieb Walter Rohrlapper credit stamp and the original German caption slug affixed. Encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
